# Funding Module

### Overview

BuilderTek's Funding module is designed for organizations that manage construction projects supported by government-funded housing assistance and grant programs.

These programs provide financial assistance to people who may not have the financial means to build a home on their own. Eligible nonprofit organizations, agencies, and other approved partners receive government funding and work with construction companies to build homes for people who meet the required eligibility criteria.

For organizations managing these construction projects, funding is not just a financial record. It needs to be connected to the customer, eligibility process, project, construction costs, and actual fund utilization.

BuilderTek brings these activities together so teams can manage the funding lifecycle while keeping customer information, projects, and financial activity connected.

### Before Creating a Funding Transaction

Before applying for or creating a Funding Transaction, the customer must first be established in BuilderTek.

When an opportunity to construct a funded home is received, a Customer Account is created for the individual or family receiving the housing assistance.

Depending on your organization's workflow, this can happen automatically when a customer applies through a connected partner website, or the Customer Account can be created manually in BuilderTek.

#### Create a Customer Account

Once the Customer Account is created, it becomes the central record for the customer's information and the funding-related construction process.

### Add Customer Contacts

After creating the Customer Account, the next step is to add the relevant Contacts associated with the customer.

For eligibility review, information about the people who are part of the household may be required. This can include individuals who are employed or otherwise contribute to the household's finances.

Adding these Contacts to the Customer Account allows the organization to maintain the required household information in one place and use it as part of the eligibility review process.

### Customer Review and Eligibility

Once the Customer Account and relevant Contacts have been added, [the application can be sent to the customer for review](/overview/customer-applications.md).

The customer can review the information provided and confirm the required details. This information can then be used to complete the organization's eligibility review based on the requirements of the applicable funding or housing assistance program.

Financial information, including debt-to-income information, can be reviewed as part of determining whether the customer meets the applicable eligibility requirements.

This step establishes the customer and eligibility information before the organization moves into the funding and construction stages.

### Managing Funding During Construction

Once funding is approved or expected, BuilderTek allows the organization to create and manage the corresponding Funding Transaction.

Funding can then be connected to the construction project and tracked throughout the project lifecycle.

Depending on your organization's configuration, teams can:

* Create and manage Funding Transactions.
* Connect funding to the appropriate Program.
* Record funding received through one or multiple payments.
* Reserve funds for projects.
* Allocate funding across project costs.
* Track reserved and utilized amounts.
* Utilize funds against eligible project expenses and invoices.
* Release funds that are no longer required.
* Review the complete history of funding activity.

This provides a connected view of where the funding came from, which project it supports, and how much has been utilized during construction.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.buildertek.com/index-4.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
